THE STATE OF SPANISH INFLUENCES IN CALABARZON: A CONFERENCE ON LOCAL HERITAGE PRESERVATION

JUNE 27, 2008
8:00 – 5:00
DE LA SALLE UNIVERSITY-DASMARINAS, CAVITE

BACKGROUND
Republic Act 9187
An Act Declaring June 30 of the Year as Philippine-Spanish Friendship Day, Appropriating Funds Therefor and for other Purposes
Authored by Sen. Edgardo Angara

The focus of the conference was the Spanish Legacies in Cavite.
The discussions put emphasis on the cultural and economic relations between the Philippines and Spain in the 19th century.
Theme “Local Heritage Preservation”

The discussion is very timely owing to the massive transformation of CALABARZON from a merely rural and agricultural area into a highly industrialized and urbanize zone. With this development in the region, tangible heritage such as the ANCESTRAL HOUSES, CASA HACIENDAS, CHURCHES, and other colonial structures which form part of the legacies of Spain in the Philippines have already been put in the sidelight because the regional priorities are directed towards economic development.
